Rescue Diver

Living in a port city on some of the world’s largest bodies of freshwater, we need aquatic search and recovery. Our local dive team exemplifies citizen volunteers.

1950s – members of the local dive clubs would often be asked to recover drowning victims by local law enforcement agencies
1960s – a team was organized under the Civil Defense director for the county
1969 – St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office took over the team

Cold water near drowning cases showed that a drowning victim could survive nearly one hour underwater under the right conditions. This is why the St. Clair County Dive Team responds in “Rescue Mode” when a life may be saved, regardless of borders. St Clair County Sheriff Dive Team Members are sworn-in Marine Deputies.
